The Grand #102

We enjoy eating at many of the restaurants near and around the condo. This list consists of places we have been to that are some of the local favorites(our daughter lives here). Go to the links page and the explore St Simons will have a long list of restaurants in the area to also choose from. Dress code, at even the fancy restaurants, is casual. You can leave your coat and tie at home as this is very casual and relaxing area. The condo is a 5 minute walk from the following restaurants: Crab Daddy, Crab Shack, Beachcombers(BBQ), Chelsea, and a deli/soup place across from the liquor store(the Still). Liquor is not sold on sundays and you can only buy wine and beer at the grocery stores.

• Dressners.

It is in the Pier area just down from 4th of May which is on the corner. Dressners is known for its biscuits and a home style breakfast. There is a sitting area in the back so it is larger than is looks. No outside seating. During busy times there is a line outside and you take a number.

• 4th of May

The best known spot and where most tourists go for breakfast. We go there every trip as my wife has to have the pecan french toast.

• The Rah Bar.

Our favorite place to get the best shrimp. It is on Jekyll Island (next to Latitude 31, another restaurant) on the wharf next to the Jekyll Island Club. The Rah Bar has outside seating and half of it is under a overhang with only 6 seats inside at the small bar. The shrimp comes off the boat called Papa Boat which, if not out, is docked next to where you are sitting. We have sat there and watched the boat come in an unload buckets of shrimp. The 2 restaurants there reap the awards and you literally have the shrimp(and they are large) come off the boat to the restaurant and then onto your plate. If the boat is not docked there then it is still out and you will be eating yesterdays catch which is still great. if you are eating during the summer try and where long sleeves and pants as it is on the water and there may be bugs. A pound of shrimp, beer and a soda is about $22. Also the sauce that comes with the shrimp is excellent. They also have Low Country boil and other things but definetly have the shrimp at least once.

• Willys

This place is in Brunswick out highway 17 and is about 20 minutes from the condo. This is known for its pork sandwich and features hot dogs, such as the Kraut Dog and many others. This is a stand that has celebrity pictures on the walls whom have been there. You will see that 99% of the cliental are from businesses around the area. There will be people dressed very casually and people dressed in suits. Definetly worth the trip.

• B&J’s

resides in Darien, which is 15 miles from Brunswick on 17. This is a favorite of the locals as you will see police in there and others. It is an all you can eat buffet for lunch and has the best fried chicken we have eaten. The buffet will also have fish or ribs and of course a lot of vegetables. On the way to Darien you will see the Hofwyl Broadfield Plantation. It is a nice tour that starts on the hour and takes about 45 minutes to do. We did the tour and the guide is the one who told us about this restaurant.
